The question of rebuilding the World Trade Center has been weighing heavily on my mind.
On one hand, I feel that we must rebuild.
We can not allow acts of terror to reshape our country.
Every change to our country, to our society, that we allow to persist is a victory for our enemies.
When I first heard that the intent is to rebuild the WTC, my heart cheered.
On the other hand however, I can understand the reluctance of some to commit to rebuilding.
It would be difficult, I fear, to find enough companies willing to be housed in such an obvious target.
Fear can be a powerful motivator.
On CNN this morning, I heard briefly of a proposal to replace the WTC without rebuilding.
The idea is to, at least temporarily, place huge spotlights at each corner of the two towers and point them up.
This would create "virtual" towers, reaching to the sky.
The idea moved me so much, that had to create the above image to get it out of my system.
In the end, I do feel that rebuilding is the best answer.
We must stand up to the actions of these madmen.
But until such time as we have the means and the resolve to rebuild, perhaps this idea will do.
UPDATE: I just found more information on the origins of this idea!
Apparently, it was proposed by a group of artists from New York City.
The title of the proposal is "Towers of Light".
I am having trouble locating any more information regarding it.
Please email me if you know anything!
