Sometimes I get paid to do cool things.
For the past few days, I've been experimenting with Artificial Neural Networks as a way of making adaptive AI for our games.
I've played with artificial intelligence and neural networks a number of times in the past, but it's always been just an intellectual exercise.
This time has been different.
Now I know this is going to sound strange, but in the process of playing with these neural networks, I've come to a better understanding of the universe.
No, really!
Watching these little networks organize themselves, with no input from me, has reinforced in my mind that creation is a natural process.
It doesn't require the intervention of some super-natural, sentient being, or the declaration of a voice on high.
NOTHING in our universe is super-natural.
Before you get up in arms, keep in mind that I DO NOT THINK THAT SCIENCE CAN EVEN REMOTELY EXPLAIN THE UNIVERSE.
I believe in the mystical and magickal.
I just don't believe that any of it is super-natural.
We are all part of some grand process.
It has life and intelligence, and interconnects us all with everything.
The earth beneath our feet, the air we breathe, the numberless stars in the heavens, the trees and plants and animals, and even this laptop that I am typing on are all part of the same entity as you and I.
As cliché as it may sound, we are one.
