I am sick to my stomach. I fear for all of the innocents that will suffer, at home and abroad, in the days and years that will come as this war progresses. That being said, I feel deep in my heart, in my soul, that we are doing the right thing. No people can be expected to stand by and allow themselves to be attacked, regardless of how justified the attackers may feel. This is the price of security. This is self-defense.
On the point of diplomatic negotiations, I have only this to say: the time has passed. Too many times our country has played to our enemies through stalling and negotiation. September 11th has shown the folly in bargaining with madmen.
On the point of Osam bin Laden and Islam. We have seen leaders use religion and cultural pride before. Hitler rallied the Germanic peoples around their cultural heritage and Pagan history. He took a proud and powerful people and turned them to evil. By twisting their beliefs and inserting himself as the spokesman for all Germans, he planned and paved the way for the greatest evils of the 20th century. Bin Laden is no better. He is a new demon for a new century.
I ask all who read this to do one thing. Pray. Pray to your own Gods, or lack there of. Pray for the safety of the innocent, and the strength of Justice and for the overthrow of hatred and evil.
Last of all, remember the old saying; "The best defense is a good offence." We cannot cry for peace yet sit by and wait. Our safety and security is in our own hands. Sometimes, the hand of Justice must wield a sword.
