I ordered a Compaq/MSN Companion today for $99. Don't worry, I'm not planning on signing up for MSN... the Borg doesn't need anymore of my money. I'm actually going to hack the thing and have some fun with it. Jimmy brought one into the office today, and we reset its BIOS so we could boot from the Compact Flash port. I formatted a 16MB CF card I had sitting around (from my Nikon 995) and put MS-DOS on it. We booted the thing and in no time we were playing with some of my old DOS screen-savers and DPaint. With a big enough CF card or an IBM micro-drive we should be able to get Win98, 2K or XP running. With 4 USB ports, the possibilities are endless. The LCD screen on the thing is worth $99 by itself! Now I just have to decide whether I'm going to make it a digital picture frame, an extra terminal on my home LAN or a picture viewer for my Nikon.
Anyway, that's what's on my mind tonight...
