Tim O'Reilly, CEO of publisher O'Reilly & Associates, has written a great article on file-sharing, so-called piracy and their effects on artists and publishers. If you have any opinion at all in regard to this controversy, you should read this essay. O'Reilly makes a number of interesting points including the idea that shoplifting is far more detrimental to publishers than file-sharing.
Personally, I find the music industry's talk of losing sales to MP3 swapping laughable. At $20 a pop, many people simply can't afford to purchase CDs. When a fan downloads a few songs and burns them on a CD at home, the industry has not lost a CD sale if the fan never intended to purchase a CD in the first place.
If you haven't yet, please feel free to stop by our MP3 page and download any Blue Star Folly tracks you'd like. They're free, and you're encouraged to share them!
