Is it a strange that most people who support the war in Iraq consider themselves Christians and morally superior to all others?  Perhaps it is, but to my mind it makes sense.  Who else but those accustomed to setting aside reason to embrace faith would be capable to ignoring the state of things so completely?  When one believes, whole-heartedly, that they are morally superior - one loses the capacity for honest, internal contemplation.  They are simply right by edict (and thus unwittingly supplant their own God with the pride of the idealogue).

Well the thing that these Christians don't know is that they're just as normal as every non-christian. It's just that, like you were saying, they feel more of a superiority because they believe in God. Those who don't "believe" are going to hell .. blablabla. What they need to do and understand is that, just because one has faith doesn't mean they necessarily tower over the "non-believer" and condemn them. What really annoys me are those Christians who make other people go to church with them so they can be "saved", or they try to convert them. They really just need to give "non-Christians" some space.

I believe the world would be a more peaceful place if everyone would a) abolish belief systems that promote torturing and murdering other people . . . these amount to a few cults and extremist groups . . . b) stop attacking people outside their own belief system, c) stop trying to convert other people to their own belief system. By "belief system", I mean morals, ethics, religion, or all of the above.
If you honestly believe that you are ethically or morally superior to other people, why not give them a chance to prove or disprove you? Why not judge them by their actions instead of what god(s) they worship, or don't worship?

You make a very profound and frightfully true statement. In a way, I can also see a connection to being blinded by patriotism causing a superiority issue. Just because we are American means we are right and justified.

A friend of mine also read your post. (I don't believe he caught the point of your post.) Nonetheless, he believes that we are in Iraq because the Iraqi governmnet supported terrorism. We are still in Iraq because we have never dealt with Arabs; they are like snakes. You destroy one and they multiply.

Voyeurette,
Your statement about Arabs is a dangerous generalization.  Perhaps you should reconsider it.  Throughout history, countless peoples have been vilified because of the color of their skin or the gods that they are beholden to.  Don't fall into the mental trap of racism just because some of the nation's enemies are Arabs.  It is all too easy to embrace the vilification of an entire people when they are different than us.  Yes, many of the terrorist fighting in Iraq are Arabs, but look at the terrorist groups in Ireland or Columbia or the Philippines or Sri Lanka or the Basque separatists of Spain.  Are they all Arabs or should we instead vilify each of those ethnic groups?.  To group all Arabs under the banner of 'terrorist' is as undeserved as the Nazi's persecution of the Jews.

I agree with you about the statement as being dangerous. The friend I speak of, who said those words is a racist. He fought with the Israeli Army and see's much of his country "blow up." This is no excuse for his blanket disregard for a certain group. He is my friend because he has many other qualities that are good.
