Composite Messiah
Composite Messiah

Before the advent of the written word, the concept of god was a collective one, summoned from the communal psyche to satisfy a need for meaning and order required by the tool-making minds of our not-quite-ape forbearers.  Eventually, they began to record their god(s), removing much of the community's participation in act of god creation and limiting religion's ability to adapt with society.  Thus god has evolved in fits and spurts, out of phase with the very beings that created it.

The Photáge above was created from 103 images of the Christian son of god.  Included in the sampling were paintings, drawings and photographs of actors playing Jesus.  He doesn't look much like a middle-eastern Jew to me... but as Abby pointed out: a lot can change in two thousand years.
- Lars

He looks kind of red-haired and somewhat effeminate. Strange that so many people accept a certain image of this 2000-years-dead guy. Marc says it looks almost like Dan.

I like the idea of using several photographs to make one composite image, and tying it to the idea that the Bible was also comprised of writings from different people to make one greater piece of work. Good stuff.

Religion is touchy. It actually spawns from the curse of conscience. As people began to evolve to have minds capable of predicting death or at least able to realize that each of us will die, religion and belief in something more after life here became necessary for sanity. It keeps people weak of mind comfortable. Religion was also used economically. Before the Industrial Reveloution in Euprope, the wealth was concentrated in 2% of the population mostly amoung land owners. To keep it this way, they would simply say all good people will get just rewards once in Heaven. This explains the Muslim extemists who feel blowing themselves up earn them 3 rivers, honey, milk, and 40 virgins.
