Portfolio Site - 2005.Feb.11 - 23:29PST   previous rant   next rant

My plan to go back to school is moving steadily forward.  I've finally narrowed down the list of potential schools to a reasonable length and I've been working frantically on a PORTFOLIO SITE (http://larryholdaway.com/).

Here's where you come in.  That's right, you.  The one at the keyboard.  No, not you over there... YOU - the one reading this.

I need you to visit my PORTFOLIO SITE (http://larryholdaway.com/), take a look around, kick the tires... take it for a little spin, and the come back here and post your impression in the comments below.

I'm looking for two things primarily:
  • First, does it work?  Did everything load okay?  Does it render well in your browser?
  • Second, constructive feedback.  Is it easy to understand and navigate?  Do you like or dislike the layout?  Do you see any improvements or changes that need to be made?
As compensation for your time and thoughts, you'll earn my loving gratitude.  :)  I thank you in advance.
- Lars

I like the strong, simple layout. It's very easy to navigate. The information is presented in the most accessible way.

Typos:
1. In the Opt-Out rollover: "This pieces is"
2. In photages, erotica: "exisiting"

"Sundry photography" seems like an inadequate description for the brown boobie bird photo. I suggest "flight above the waves" or something that gives it an atmosphere. Ditto with the two photos that are described as "Macro."

In the erotica section, #34 has no description, and I think it needs one in order to fit with the others.

Very, very nice online portfolio! I don't think you'll have any trouble getting into a college art program.

I'm likin' the new portfolio site, just a few comments:
I think the title should be on its own line, or even centered and then the pics on the main page, (and all the pages) should be closer to their mouse-over description. Other than that its great. I'm usinc Safari, and it looks pretty good. It does create a scroll bar at the bottom, which I find sort of annoying, but I am also using a 12 inch powerbook and I can widen my browser view to fix it. On Firefox for mac it looks better. Everything loads fine. I just wish the pics were in some better order, there ares some just kinda sitting out there.

Everything on the page loaded fine and works on my XP machine. I like the layout but it didn't hit me right away I needed to click on the pictures to get more. That or I needed to get more sleep as it's 4am now. Once I figured out the picture thing getting around was easy and fun. I really like the diagonal framing placement of each picture on a mouse over.

Oh and I tired out the page with my old crappy computers! The one with P4 + Win98SE + IE 6.0.2800 = worked fine like my XP one. But the older PIII + Win98SE + IE 5.00.2614 = wouldn't show or load any of the graphical text for the title like "Portfolio Larry Holdaway" and no "back" button. So with no back button I had to use the back button on the browser. Seemed ok just not as cool like on the other machines.

Hope that helps! Talk to you later!

Works fine up at school on the computers in the lab. Windows 98SE 4.10 2222 with IE 5.50 "with SP2".
